Toby The Bed Bug Dog

Toby was rescued from an animal shelter and trained by Bill Whitstine of the Florida Canine Academy.  Toby was given over 800 hours of training and certified as a bed bug detection dog.  Toby was carefully selected, in December of 2009 by the company’s President Robert Gallo to become the first bed bug detection dog trained by the Florida K-9 Academy to work and train in Los Angeles and surrounding Southern California areas.

Robert Gallo Said, “Before introducing our Canine program to the public and our clients I spent several months working with Toby prior to taking him out on the field because, I wanted to make sure that he and I were working well together, .” This hard work has definitely paid off, and Toby has been very busy working inspecting hotels, apartments, Residential homes, nursing homes, Commercial Properties, Office Buildings, and housing authorities.

Toby’s hard work hasn’t gone unnoticed and he has been featured on the Santa Clarita Signal, KCAL 9 News, The Beverly Press, Channel 4 News, Dogs Days In L.A. Magazine, and has also come out on a TV show called K-9 Corner.   Check our Media page for more information.

Over the past few years and into today, Toby was joined by Ozzy, Baby, and Herby, all certified as well.

In January of 2012 Toby took his Training to the next level, and was evaluated by Pepe Peruyero Nationally recognized expert from J & K Academy, which is one of the premier canine scent detection training Facilities in the world.

After being evaluated Toby went through NESDCA certification which is the gold standard in K-9 Certified teams, and passed with flying colors.

Ozzy was rescued from an animal shelter and trained by Bill Whitstine of the Florida Canine Academy.  Ozzy was given over 800 hours of training and certified as a bed bug detection dog.  Ozzy was carefully selected, in December of 2010 by the company’s President Robert Gallo to become the Second bed bug detection dog trained by the Florida K-9 Academy to work and train in Los Angeles and surrounding Southern California areas.

Robert Gallo and his staff again spent several months working with Ozzy prior to taking him out on the field because they wanted to make sure that he and his handler were working well together, before introducing him to the public and their clients.” This hard work definitely paid off Ozzy was very busy working inspecting hotels, apartments, Residential homes, nursing homes, and housing authorities alongside with his brother Toby.

On September 29, 2011 around 8:30 am Ozzy had an unfortunate accident.  Ozzy’s handler, at the time made the biggest mistake you can make when working with a service dog.  He got to comfortable and did not double and triple check that the dog was secured correctly by his leash.  He did not secure the leash properly and Ozzy ran into the street and was hit by a car.

R.I.P  to our brother Ozzy The Bed Bug Dog, the happiness and joy that he brought to our family will ensure him a spot in heaven. His Hard work will not be forgotten and we will continue the fight against bed bugs in your honor.

Please take a moment to check his Facebook Page and leave any comments you might have.  We have decided to keep his page open as a memorial to him for all the hard work he did on the fight against bed bugs.

Herby The Bed Bug Dog

Herby was rescued from an animal shelter in Florida and trained by Pepe Peruyero, Nationally recognized expert from J & K Academy, that is one of the premier canine scent detection training Facilities in the world.  After the unfortunate accident we had with Ozzy The Bed Bug Dog on September 29, 2011, we still needed another Bed Bug Detection Canine.  We called Pepe to tell him what happened and that we needed another dog.  Prior to the Pictures being sent J & K told us a little about each of the dogs they had ready.  They told us that all the dogs where ready to go, but that Herby would be a good fit for our Team. Once we got the pictures and saw Herby, we knew he was the going to be our guy.  Although his original training was for over two months, we were unable to come get him until January of 2012.  With that said Herby Got an extra four months of Training and was utilized on the field prior to us getting there.

Herby was a little shy at first but within a couple of days of working and bonding with him he came around.  Herby is a sweet playful and lovable dog, but don’t let that fool you.  He knows when it’s time to work, its serious business and he doesn’t play around when it comes to that.

In January of 2012 Herby went through NESDCA certification and made Round The Clock Pest Control his new home, and has already been busy working, inspecting, apartments, Residential homes, nursing homes, Commercial Properties, Office buildings, and housing authorities alongside with his brother Toby the Bed Bug Dog and, sister Baby The Bed Bug Dog.
